Campaign in Pasaka, Lithuania

Hello,

we are a kindergarden from Vilnius (Lithuania) which
is called "Pasaka". The 5-7 year olds from our kindergarden
care about all global warming -
related issues because there
hasn't been such a warm winter in this country for 70 years.

The kids have made many frogs of different shapes and using
different materials. We also discussed how the frogs could
be saved. The teachers gathered lots of information about
global warming and prepared a presentation for parents.

Greetings (very warm ones) from Lithuania,
Jolita

Our school hosted during this week a contest named Urban

At this activity also took part representatives from the Nature
Science Museum.
On 17 January we joyfully took part at the "March of the Frogs".
On this day our students and teachers have met with the folks

trying to convince them at lest to respect a chosen pledge,
offering them ENO leaflets.
At the end of the march, balloons with our pledges are set

Campaign at Vilniaus “Juventos” gimnazija, Lithuania

We, the pupils of Vilniaus “Juventos” gimnazija,
Lithuania, are happy to take part in the ENO Climate
Change Campaign together with many schools all over
the world. We fully agree that climate change is a
global problem nowadays and during the event each of
us has a great chance to express their opinions on
this issue.

While doing the first activity, we found information
and made investigations on the topic “Impacts of Climate
Change in Lithuania”. Using those data, we wrote articles
about the impact of climate change on natural vegetation
and fauna, agriculture and forests, and, of course, on
weather. Later on we made the presentations for our schoolmates.

A part of our activities was the gallup where we asked
questions about people’s attitude towards climate change.
Our pupils made interviews and submitted the answers online.
We’re glad that so many countries have participated in the
gallup and Lithuania was one of the leaders.

Also, we made a frog of recycled paper and now Frank is
“living” in our classroom. We, our friends, parents and
teachers made pledges and put them into the frog. After
we had collected the pledges, we submitted some of them
to ENO Pledge Bank.

While working on this project, we’ve come to the conclusion
that there are many little things we can do to make a difference.
If we try, most of us can do our part to reduce the amount of
greenhouse gases that we put into the atmosphere. We understand
that we can control climate change and pledge to become responsible
citizens.

In conclusion, we’d like to thank our teachers, Galina Bogdanova
and Kirsi Snellman, for encouraging and helping us with our activities.
We’re looking forward to participating in the next event."

School 2, Galati, Romania - Glimpses of a beautiful project

"Since the very beginning of the project, most of our pupils
aged 7-14 have shown interest in its theme; that's why they
enthusiastically have participated in all the activities adding
their own creativity, originality and freshness of ideas
characteristic to all children.

Working in teams, making visual materials, sending pledges,
disseminating information about the climate change, competing
with other schools in our city at workshop sessions, all these
activities have turned the whole school into a very active centre
in promoting the cause and intentions of ENO Project.

January 17 was the coronation of this year's Project as the
purpose of the "March of the Frogs" was reached: lots of people
in the streets and in the public institutions could hear about ENO.

We are happy and proud to have acted as responsible citizens of
Planet Earth. Thank you, ENO Project promotors in Finland for
giving us this opportunity. May LOVE, PEACE, JOY and WISDOM
reign on Earth and among all people."

Campaign in Ljubljana, Slovenia

"We have organized an exhibition with purpose to warn people
about climate changes. Our frogs were collecting pledges to make
small changes in our lives which will help reduce Co2 emissions."

OUR CONTRIBUTION TO MINIMIZE CLIMATE CHANGES

We are the pupils of the secondary school of construction and economy.
We were told about the climate changes. So we were talking what causes
the changes and what will be the consequences. In discussion we came
to the conclusion that every one could do something. We concluded that
small steps we make together could have a great influence at climate
changes. So to call other people attention we drew traffic signs for warnings,
prohibitions and informations with sketches of climate changes. We will
organize an exhibition of our work and we will add our oaths.

ENO Tree Planting Campaign 2007

ENO Programme has made a pledge to plant a total of
100 000 trees by the end of this year. A special website
for the campaign is now available where participants can
make their pledges and report their plantings. You can
see the numbers of trees left on the web.

Schools, children or youth groups are invited to join
this campaign. Trees can be planted during the year and
information after planting are asked to be submitted to
the ENO Tree Database. In addition there will be two global
tree planting days arrraged by the ENO Programme.

Another goal is to spread this activity to every country.
This campaign will not only be for environmental protection
but for international collaboration and peace. It is linked
to UNEP's Billion Tree Campaign that was launched in November 2006.

Tree Planting Campaign is also an act against the climate
change. Trees and forests absorbs carbon dioxide and acts as a sink.

An Inconvenient Truth for campaign week!

Here in my city we have asked the local
cinema theatre to perform this documentary
film for students in the campaign day,
17th of January. We will take our frogs with
us, march with them and put them in some public
places like city hall, library etc.

This film will be available in public during two
weeks after us. Schools have been interested in
the film and already two sessions are sold-out.
Great for local awareness here!

I recommend you could also see this film (if you
haven't already). Let us know if you do!It is
available also in DVD. You find more information
about the film here: http://www.climatecrisis.net

Did you know that Al Gore appreciates ENO Programme?
When we started in 2000 he was a vice-president in US.
He sent us a letter you can see here.

Temp records , floods

Here's some picks:

Last December was the warmest December in Finland
ever measured.
According the Finnish Meteorological
Institute this can happen a couple of times in 1000 years!
In Sweden it was also warmest since their records began in 1756.

Many places have suffered from floods in Africa and
other continents. For instance I heard today from our
ENO school in Israel about a flood in Zin river in Negev
desert, find info and video here:

Creative activities in Romania

Happy new year 2007! Have you made your pledge for this year?
Please do it here.

Teachers and students at the National College "Mihail Kogalniceanu"
have been creative- see their activities below:

The pupils of the eleventh grade C from our school, guided by
teacher Mrs Madalina Popescu made the mascot Frank. Frank is
made from polystyrene . On top of we glued co loured paper. In
this box we place our ENO pledge. The pupils who made Frank are:
Calin Raluca, Pacuraru Anca, Craciun Cristina, Hirjoaba Ionut. Also,
in December the pupils of our school have made posters with Frank.

School organized a fashion show "Odd Outfits". The clothes were
made from recyclable materials and were presented by the students
from ninth and tenth grades. The teachers Mrs Mariana Ganea and
Mrs Mariana Bulgaru through their guidance and activities have succeeded
in stimulating the pupils interest in protecting the environment.
At the end of the activity the pupils established the importance and the
meaning of the slogans:
  • Buy ecological products for a healthy environment
  • Separate the waste
  • Use less plastic bags
  • Use the garbage as fertilizer
  • Water means life
  • Turn off the lights and reduce heating
  • Do not use cars for short travels
